Microsoft Teams
Microsoft Teams chat channels bring Autohive agents into the Teams channels where your team already works. Install Autohive in a Team, connect that Team to an Autohive plan, route a channel to an agent, and keep each request and response in the same Teams thread.
Each channel route connects:
- one Microsoft Teams channel;
- one public Autohive workspace; and
- one default Autohive agent from that workspace.
When a linked person mentions Autohive in a configured channel, the mapped agent receives the request and replies in the Teams thread. Autohive can include earlier thread messages and attached files as context, update the thread while the agent works, and return generated images and files.
Before you start
You need:
- an Autohive plan with Chat channels and Microsoft Teams enabled;
- membership in the Autohive plan as an owner, manager, or member;
- permission to install or request approval for the Autohive app in Microsoft Teams;
- a public Autohive workspace in the plan;
- membership in that public workspace for every person who will invoke its agent; and
- at least one agent in that workspace.
Microsoft Teams installs Autohive into a Team, not into an individual user’s account. Each Autohive plan can connect to one Microsoft Teams Team at a time. Disconnect the existing Team before connecting a different one to the same plan.
If Chat channels does not appear in your Autohive profile menu, the feature is not enabled for your plan. If Microsoft Teams shows Coming soon, Teams chat channels are not enabled for the plan.
Your Microsoft 365 administrator may need to approve Autohive before you can install it. This depends on your organization’s Teams app policies.
Connect Microsoft Teams
Start the installation from the Autohive plan you want to connect. This keeps the selected plan attached to the setup flow, even when your account belongs to several Autohive plans.
- Click your profile picture in the bottom-left corner of Autohive.
- Select Chat channels.
- Find Microsoft Teams and click Connect Microsoft Teams.
- Microsoft Teams opens the Autohive app installation page.
- Select Add to a team or the equivalent team-install option.
- Choose the Microsoft Teams Team that should use this Autohive plan.
- Review the installation details and complete the installation.
- In the welcome card posted by Autohive, click Complete setup.
- Sign in to Autohive if prompted.
- Confirm the connection. Autohive returns you to the Teams chat-channel settings for the plan that started the installation.
The setup link expires after 30 minutes. If it expires, remove and reinstall the app, or mention @Autohive configure in the Team to request a fresh setup card.
If the app is already installed
If Autohive is installed in the Team but setup was not completed:
- Open a channel where the Autohive app is available.
- Mention
@Autohive configure. - Open Complete setup from the card.
- Sign in to Autohive and finish the plan connection.
Installing the app alone does not create an Autohive plan connection. The connection appears in Autohive only after Complete setup succeeds.
If the Team is connected to another plan
A Microsoft Teams Team can be connected to more than one Autohive plan, but each individual Autohive plan can connect to only one Team. When Teams shows more than one plan-specific setup or configuration link, choose the plan whose agent should handle that channel.
Avoid configuring the same Teams channel as active in several Autohive plans unless you intentionally want more than one routed agent to receive mentions.
Add a Teams channel
After the Team is connected, create the first route:
- Open Chat channels in Autohive.
- Click Manage on the Microsoft Teams card.
- Click Add channel.
- Select a Microsoft Teams channel.
- Select an Autohive agent. Agents are grouped by their public Autohive workspace.
- Click Save channel.
The route appears under Connected channels with its Teams channel, default agent, Autohive workspace, and active state. The setup card in Teams updates to show that the channel is ready.
Configure from Teams
You can start the same route setup from the Teams channel:
- Mention
@Autohive configurein the channel. - Click Configure channel in Autohive’s response.
- Sign in to Autohive if prompted.
- Choose the agent for the preselected Teams channel.
- Click Save channel.
If the Team is connected to several Autohive plans, the response can contain a separate configuration link for each plan. Choose the intended plan before saving the route.
Channel and workspace rules
- The Teams channel must belong to the Team connected to the Autohive plan.
- The selected Autohive workspace must be public.
- The agent must belong to that workspace.
- A person can invoke the agent only when their linked Autohive account belongs to both the plan and the configured workspace.
- Autohive does not automatically add Teams users to an Autohive workspace.
If a linked person is not a member of the configured workspace, Autohive explains that they do not have access and does not run the agent. An Autohive workspace administrator must add them before they can use that route.
Link your Teams account
Connecting a Team authorizes the app for the Autohive plan. Each person must privately link their own Teams identity to their Autohive account before they can start an agent request.
- In a connected Team, mention
@Autohive link-me. - Click Link my account or Continue securely in the response.
- Teams opens a private window that only you can see.
- Sign in to the Autohive account that should be linked.
- Confirm the link.
- If a Microsoft Teams profile photo is available, choose whether to copy it to your Autohive profile.
- Close the dialog and return to Teams.
The one-time account-link request expires after 15 minutes. Mention @Autohive link-me again if it expires or whenever you want to check your link status.
The completed card no longer contains an account-link button. The shared setup card can show that one or more members have linked their accounts, but does not reveal which members linked.
Link across multiple plans
If the Team is connected to more than one Autohive plan, the link dialog identifies the available plans. Complete the link for every plan whose routed agents you need to use. Running @Autohive link-me again shows whether your Teams identity is fully linked.
Profile photo copying
Profile photo copying is optional:
- Autohive changes your avatar only after you confirm the copy.
- If Teams has no profile photo, your existing Autohive avatar remains unchanged.
- If a photo is unavailable, identity linking still completes.
- You can update your Autohive profile photo later from your profile settings.
You can review or remove your linked identity from Personal settings > Chat channels. Unlinking your identity does not disconnect the Team or remove channel routes.
Talk to an agent from Teams
In a connected, active channel, mention Autohive followed by your request:
@Autohive Summarize the decisions in this thread and list the next actions.
You can also make the command explicit:
@Autohive ask Draft a customer update from this discussion.
Autohive creates or continues a Teams thread, runs the channel’s configured agent, and returns the answer in that thread. Keep follow-up messages in the same thread so the agent can retain the conversation context.
Commands
Mention Autohive before each command:
| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
@Autohive ask <message> | Starts an agent request. |
@Autohive configure | Opens channel setup for the current Teams channel. |
@Autohive link-me | Links your Teams identity or checks its status. |
@Autohive status | Shows the Team connection, current channel route, and account-link status. |
@Autohive agents | Lists agents available in the routed Autohive workspace. |
@Autohive help | Shows all supported commands and guidance. |
Commands work in configured Teams channels. Autohive does not currently route agent conversations from a personal one-to-one chat.
Thread context
- Mention Autohive to start a new agent request.
- Reply inside the resulting Teams thread to continue the same Autohive conversation.
- Earlier messages in the thread can be included as context.
- Messages from other participants can provide context, but only a linked, authorized person can start an agent run.
- Mentioning another Teams user does not invoke Autohive unless Autohive is also mentioned.
Progress and long responses
Autohive first posts a working response, then updates it as tools complete. The final answer replaces the working response when possible. Long answers are split into readable Teams messages and posted in order.
Work with files and images
Files sent from Teams
Attach a file or paste an image into the same message as your request. Autohive can pass supported Teams attachments to the agent as context.
For best results:
- Add the file to the Teams channel message.
- Mention Autohive in that message.
- Explain what the agent should do with the file.
Autohive accepts up to 10 inbound files with a combined size of 100 MB per message. Pasted inline images are included within their supported limits.
Files generated by an agent
- Generated images are returned as native image attachments in the Teams thread.
- Other generated files are saved with the Teams channel files and returned as links.
- Anyone opening a generated file must already have access to that Team and channel.
If the response text appears but its file does not, retry with a new request. Contact Autohive support if files continue to be unavailable.
Manage connected channels
Open Chat channels, click Manage on the Microsoft Teams card, and review the routes under Connected channels.
Pause or resume a channel
Use the Active switch to pause or resume a route. Pausing keeps the mapping but stops new agent requests from that Teams channel.
Change the agent or workspace
Remove the existing route, then add the Teams channel again with the new agent. Selecting the agent also selects its Autohive workspace.
Remove a channel
Use the remove action on the channel row and confirm Remove channel. Autohive stops responding in that channel, but the Team remains connected to the plan.
Reconnect Microsoft Teams
If Microsoft Teams shows Reconnection required, click Manage and follow the reconnection action. Reconnecting keeps the saved channel routes when possible.
Disconnect the Team
A plan owner can disconnect Microsoft Teams from Plan integrations. Disconnecting the plan connection stops all Teams chat-channel routes that use it and can also affect agents, workflows, or scheduled jobs using the same plan-level Teams connection.
Remove the app from Teams
Remove Autohive from the Team through Manage team > Apps, or use your organization’s Teams app-management process. Removing the app disconnects that Team from Autohive. Reinstall the app and complete setup again to reconnect it.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | How to fix |
|---|---|
| Microsoft Teams does not appear under Chat channels | Confirm that Chat channels and Microsoft Teams are enabled for the Autohive plan. |
| Connect Microsoft Teams is unavailable | Confirm that the plan has Chat channels access and that Microsoft Teams is enabled. Ask your Autohive plan administrator if needed. |
| Teams will not let me install the app | Ask your Microsoft 365 administrator to allow or approve Autohive in Teams app policies. Install it into a Team, not only for an individual account. |
| The app is installed but Autohive still shows Connect | Installation and Autohive setup are separate. Open the welcome card and click Complete setup, or mention @Autohive configure for a fresh setup card. |
| The setup link is invalid or expired | Setup links expire after 30 minutes. Request a fresh card with @Autohive configure, or reinstall the app. |
| Setup opened the wrong Autohive plan | Start again from Chat channels inside the intended plan. Setup returns you to the plan that started the connection. |
| This plan is already connected to another Team | Disconnect the existing Microsoft Teams connection before connecting a different Team. |
| A Teams channel is missing | Confirm that it belongs to the connected Team and that the Autohive app is available in that channel. Then reopen the channel selector. |
| A workspace or agent is missing | The workspace must be public and belong to the current plan. The agent must be available in that workspace. |
| Autohive asks me to link my account | Mention @Autohive link-me and complete the user-only dialog while signed in to an Autohive account that belongs to the connected plan and routed workspace. |
| The link button does nothing | Update or reinstall the current Autohive Teams app, then run @Autohive link-me again. Contact Autohive support if it still does not open. |
| Autohive says I am not part of the workspace | Ask a workspace administrator to add your Autohive account to the public workspace selected for that channel. Teams linking never joins a workspace automatically. |
| Autohive does not respond | Mention @Autohive, confirm the channel route is active, run @Autohive status, and check that your identity, plan membership, and workspace membership are valid. |
| The response is in the wrong conversation | Start the request in the intended Teams channel and continue inside the thread created for that request. |
| An attached file is missing from the agent context | Attach the file to the same message as the mention, then retry. Contact Autohive support if Teams files remain unavailable. |
| A generated image or file is missing | Retry with a new request. Contact Autohive support if text works but files consistently fail. |
| My Teams profile photo was not copied | The photo is optional. If Teams has no photo available, keep or update your Autohive avatar manually. |
| Chat channels are paused | Restore paid Chat channels access. Saved connections and routes remain available for later reactivation. |
If the problem continues, contact Autohive support with the Autohive plan name, Microsoft Teams Team and channel names, the approximate time of the request, and the command or action that failed. Do not send one-time account-link URLs or sign-in details.
Teams actions and chat channels
The two Microsoft Teams experiences can share a plan-level connection, but they solve different problems:
| Feature | Use it when |
|---|---|
| Chat channels | People in Teams need to ask an Autohive agent for help and receive responses in native Teams threads. |
| Microsoft Teams actions | An agent, workflow, or scheduled job needs to list channels, read messages, or send Teams messages as part of a task. |
See the Microsoft Teams integration guide for agent actions and automation capabilities.
